Xi Re-Commits to Marxism
The Morning Star, London, 2 July 2016
President Xi Jinping reiterated the Communist Party of China’s commitment to Marxist philosophy yesterday on the 95th anniversary of its founding.
“Marxism must be the basic fundamental, guiding principle,” he said, “or the party would lose its soul and direction,” Mr Xi told the CPC anniversary rally in Beijing. One who wants to stride ahead should not forget the path that was trodden.”
“No matter how far we will travel and to whatever bright future, we should not forget what we have done and why we set out to do it.”
Mr Xi added that while China pursues a military strategy of “active defence,” it would not “flaunt its military power on others doorsteps at the drop of a hat.”
“Flaunting power everywhere will not reflect strength and it will not scare anyone,” he said — a possible jibe at the US naval build-up in the South China Sea.
