A top Chinese anti-corruption official has vowed severe penalties for lavish banquets and tours at public expense, as well as violation of political discipline. The promise comes in a work report by the Secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Wang Qishan.
Wang says Party members should be frugal and shun extravagance and waste. He wants a ban on sightseeing tours at public expense. He’s also calling for strict implementation of regulations on clean governance, speaking out against attempts to abuse power for personal gain. And he’s stressed the need to maintain political discipline at all levels.
The CCDI will continue to implement a mechanism requiring officials to report their personal affairs, as well as conduct checks to verify important information. The Party will continue to put pressure on corruption and promote integrity through legislation. Wang Qishan also vowed to intensify efforts to prevent corrupt officials from fleeing the country and to recover stolen money or goods.
