Chiadzwa — PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday commissioned the multi-million dollar 83-roomed three-star hotel in Mutare and Jin'an Buddha Temple at Anjin's Nechirasika Complex at Chiadzwa.
The hotel was built near Mutare Teachers' College at a 7 438 square-metre plot allocated to Anjin Investment diamond mining by the City of Mutare.
The hotel is called Golden Peacock Hotel and is a subsidiary of Anjin Investments.
The land was initially meant for a logistical centre for the mining concern where equipment was received before being taken to Chiadzwa.
The yard was turned into a beautiful hotel within a year.
The hotel has a capacity to accommodate 120 guests and has a canteen, conference room, VIP rooms and a swimming pool.
The hotel complex also houses a supermarket and a wholesale for Chinese goods. Earlier President Mugabe opened the Jin'an Buddha Temple at Chiadzwa.
The Chinese people gathered equated President Mugabe to the founder of the modern China, chairman Mao Tsetung.
In an interview after President Mugabe officially opened the Jin'an Buddha Temple, the master of the temple, Master Kai Hui, said President Mugabe was a great person just like chairman Mao and deserved the respect of everyone.
"Chairman Mao freed us from the old China and was the founding father of the modern China and just like our chairman, President Mugabe, freed Zimbabweans from the old world of poverty.
"We want to thank President Mugabe for allowing us the Chinese to follow and observe our culture in Zimbabwe.
"We are very grateful for his leadership qualities and we wish him longevity and good health," said Master Kai. Chairman Mao governed a country that was many years behind the world's post-war powers.
China's problems were huge and chairman Mao decided to introduce radical solutions for China's domestic weaknesses rather than rely on conservative ones, something which President Mugabe was championing through the land reform and economic empowerment programmes.
President Mugabe who was accompanied by the Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, was welcomed at Anjin by the Manicaland Provincial Governor Chris
Mushohwe, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Perrence Shiri, senior Government officials and Chinese officials. During the official opening of the temple, President Mugabe was taken through a ceremony, a preserve of VIPs by Master Kai.
"This special ceremony is meant for VIPs only and it is a great honour for President Mugabe and we wish him good luck in the forthcoming elections.
"We also wish Zimbabweans good health and peace. The ceremony was a gesture from the people of China to Zimbabweans and we wanted Buddha to bless President Mugabe and the people of Zimbabwe," he said.
The Anjin Complex at Nechirasika is one of the eye-catching places at the Chiadzwa diamond fields and houses staff quarters, a boardroom, a restaurant and the temple, which is well decorated with imported artifacts.
The Chinese also scored a first by transplanting giant baobab trees from their mining concession. Besides having the largest diamond processing plant in the world, the company also scored a first by constructing recreational facilities for its works at Nechirasika. Anjin
Investment has so far relocated 470 families from its mining concession to Arda Transau near Odzi. It has also built primary and secondary schools for the children of relocated families and provided taped water.
